How will you make an impact in this role?

As Business Development Director, you will play a vital role in managing and expanding American Express’s strategic partnerships with issuers and acquiring partners throughout Brazil. Your efforts will drive business growth, boost client engagement, and spearhead initiatives to broaden Amex’s acceptance network. Excelling in this position requires capable team leadership, effective cross-department collaboration, and an in-depth understanding of the Brazilian payments industry.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team of business development managers, striving for ambitious partnership goals.
  • Design and execute comprehensive strategies to strengthen and grow relationships with both current and prospective issuer partners.
  • Drive strategic initiatives with acquirers, merchants, and payment facilitators to expand Amex’s acceptance network across Brazil.
  • Build and maintain strong connections with C-level executives and cross-functional teams within client and prospect organizations.
  • Negotiate and finalize partnership agreements that deliver mutual benefits for Amex and its partners.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment with broader business growth objectives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, and accountability within your team and the organization.
  • Operate with a robust risk mindset, maintaining a strong control environment and ensuring that every action upholds Amex’s commitment to trust, security, and service.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in Sales and Business Development.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in the Payments Industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of Brazil’s payment ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategies into actionable plans that produce results.
  • Resilience and determination to drive outcomes in a challenging business environment.
  • Strong consultative selling skills.
  • Self-leadership, maturity, flexibility, and patience to navigate a dynamic work setting and changing business needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with corporate clients (Decision Makers, Financial Controllers, Accountants, etc.)
  • Results-oriented and highly focused on customer satisfaction.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, including experience collaborating with internal stakeholders and influencing at all levels.
  • Fluent English is mandatory; Spanish proficiency is preferred.
