Payments Systems Analyst

Role Overview

This is a highly specialized, hands-on role focused on credit, debit, and prepaid card issuing and transaction processing.

The Payments Systems Analyst will serve as the subject-matter expert in Visa and Mastercard network specifications, ensuring compliance with mandates, cryptographic standards, and operational excellence.

The analyst will bridge engineering, product, and operations by maintaining deep technical documentation, building test frameworks, and guiding the company's adherence to ISO 8583, EMV, PCI DSS, and card brand requirements.

Analysis & Specification

Interpret and maintain Visa / Mastercard specifications and internal documentation (fields / DEs, bitmaps, BCD / ASCII / EBCDIC, LLVAR / LLLVAR encodings).

Model and review critical ISO 8583 content : DE55 (EMV tags / BER-TLV), DE52 (PIN Data), DE35 / 45 (Track2 / Track1), DE44 / 48 / 60 / 61 / 63 / 127, DE39 response codes, etc.

Define business rules by MTI and by product (POS, e-commerce, ATM, wallets / tokenization).

Align with Visa / Mastercard requirements to avoid operational or financial impacts from non-compliance.

Quality Assurance

Create test plans, regression suites, and compliance contracts by card brand.

Build and maintain "golden" messages and negative scenarios (field fuzzing, invalid lengths, corrupted data).

Automate end-to-end and integration testing with simulators and networks.

Cryptography & Security

Validate EMV flows (ARQC / ARPC, IAD, TVR, AIP), 3-D Secure 2.x (ECI, CAVV / UCAF), AVS / CVV2.

Monitor HSM / AWS Payment Cryptography (APC) and TR-31 / TR-34 processes (when applicable).

Ensure PCI DSS compliance and data confidentiality best practices.

Operations & Observability

Define and monitor metrics (p95 / p99 latency, timeout / reversal rate, approval / denial).

Build dashboards / alerts for real-time monitoring.

Support incident management, chargeback analysis / tuning, and continuous improvements.

Documentation & Governance

Maintain internal specifications aligned with Visa, Mastercard, and other card brand requirements.

Disseminate knowledge and train engineering / business teams.

Ensure adherence to company and customer certifications.

Requirements

10+ years of experience in card payments (credit, debit, prepaid) with strong exposure to Visa / Mastercard specifications.

Hands-on expertise with ISO 8583, EMV, PCI DSS, and card brand mandates.

Proven ability to create and validate test suites with simulators / networks.

Deep understanding of cryptography and HSM operations in payment environments.

Fluent in English and Spanish (Portuguese a plus).

Strong cross-functional communication with engineering, product, and operations.

Self-starter, detail-oriented, able to balance compliance and operational efficiency.

Advantages

Experience with AWS Payment Cryptography, Drata / Vanta, or similar GRC tooling.

Prior work in fintech, issuer processor, or card network integrations.

Knowledge of ISO 20022 and cross-border payments.
