About ALUME Institute ALUME Institute is a
Brazilian non-profit NGO
based at Fazenda ALUME in Ilhéus, Bahia. We are dedicated to
regenerating land and empowering communities
through education, sustainability, health, and culture. Our farm spans
42 hectares (100 acres)
with seven natural springs and is located just 7 km from the Atlantic Ocean on Bahia’s Cacao Coast.
Half of the land remains preserved, while the other half—previously exploited—is being
reforested and revitalized
through agroforestry and sustainable land management. Beyond restoration, our mission includes
purchasing additional land for preservation , creating
tribal co-living communities , and
fostering spiritual and social growth .

Role Overview We are seeking a
Co-Founder & Chief Financial and Development Officer (CFDO)
— a strategic leader who will bridge
financial strategy
and
resource development
to drive ALUME’s sustainable growth. This role combines the responsibilities of a
CFO
(financial structure, governance, compliance) and a
Business Development & Fundraising Lead
(partnerships, CSR programs, grant strategy). The ideal candidate will understand
NGO business models ,
funding mechanisms , and how to align
financial sustainability with mission impact .
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Governance (CFO Role) Develop and execute
financial strategy, planning, and analysis Oversee
budgeting, reporting, cash flow , legal compliance, and audits Manage
banking relationships , financial forecasting, and risk control Ensure
transparency, accountability , and sustainable financial structure
Business Development & Fundraising (Growth Role) Lead
B2B CSR partnership programs
with private sector companies Coordinate
grant application programs
across departments and partners Design and manage
fundraising campaigns
and sponsorship strategies Explore and secure
national and international funding opportunities Build and maintain
strategic alliances
with institutional partners and donors Develop
impact finance models
aligned with ALUME’s long-term goals
Commitment 10-12 h / week This position begins on a
volunteer basis
during the MVP phase, with a clear pathway toward a
salaried executive role
once funding is secured. Co-Founder Agreement will be completed together during initial onboarding process, including commitment terms and role description.
Candidate Profile ✅ Fluent in
Portuguese & English ✅ Proven experience in
fundraising, grants, or financial management
in Brazil (must-have) ✅ Strong understanding of
NGO business models
and
funding mechanisms ✅ Experience in
CSR program development
and
grant application leadership ✅ 3–7 years of relevant finance or development experience preferred ✅ CPA or MBA a plus (not mandatory) ✅ Skilled in
financial planning, reporting, compliance, and donor relations ✅ Motivated by
social impact, sustainability, and innovation ✅ Proactive, collaborative, and comfortable in a
startup-NGO environment
