Overview
The Senior Project Engineer will oversee and execute capital projects (CapEx) within a dynamic multinational food industry environment, supporting all Manufacturing Operations sites for Barry Callebaut’s Cocoa Business in Brazil. The role covers the project lifecycle from concept and feasibility studies through engineering design, procurement, and implementation, translating business needs into actionable project plans and ensuring successful delivery in line with industry standards and company policies. The Senior Project Engineer is expected to foster excellence and innovation, driving teams toward strategic objectives.
Location : Itabuna, Bahia, Brazil, with eventual support for a second factory in Ilhéus, Bahia. Travel between plants when required must be considered. This position is under the Engineering organization, involving information and data exchange with Corporate teams as part of the core scope. The main stakeholders include Plant Managers and departments such as Quality Assurance, HSE, HR, Maintenance, R&D, Supply Chain and Production.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Lead and oversee outsourced engineers / engineering companies and staff, exercising technical and administrative oversight; independently perform the full range of professional engineering work assignments.
- Develop and validate frameworks, standards and internal work instructions for the department.
- Act as project manager on construction projects; establish priorities, track budgets and schedules, direct work of staff, consultants, and contractors; administer contracts and approve payments.
- Prepare and process required project documentation; maintain records of activities, findings, progress and results; prepare design drawings and specifications, engineering studies, reports, memorandums and correspondence.
- Establish and revise technical, QA and QC standards; perform design reviews for conformance and obtain formal approvals from main stakeholders.
- Obtain stakeholder input on projects; participate in steering groups and committees; represent Project Engineering in operational decisions.
- Collaborate with management to plan, organize and direct resources to complete projects within budget and schedule; contribute to bid documents and contract awards.
- Ensure project completion in accordance with work plans and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, codes and internal policies.
- With Procurement, manage procurement strategies, select and manage contractors, vendors and suppliers; negotiate contracts and ensure timely, cost-effective procurement of services and materials.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies; create contingency plans to manage uncertainties.
- Lead budget estimation for the CapEx 2-year Mid Term Plan and obtain validation from the Engineering Manager.
- Performs other related work as required.

About You
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required. A master’s degree (MS or MBA) is considered an asset.Master's Degree and / or Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.Progressive engineering experience within manufacturing and / or corporate environments with proven experience leading teams and high-impact projects.Full proficiency in business and technical English.High level knowledge of Microsoft Project is required.Proficient in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks); familiarity with ERP systems is an advantage.Proven technical experience in multifunctional projects with references who can be contacted.Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Exposure to international manufacturing environments is a plus.Location : Itabuna - Bahia
