About MAVI
MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies.
We maintain a deliberately high bar on both sides of the placement. The companies we partner with are venture-backed and private equity-backed businesses building modern finance organizations, and the professionals we represent are operators with a track record of owning the numbers rather than supporting them from a distance.
The roles we place are embedded positions within the finance function itself. Our professionals work alongside founders, CEOs, and senior leadership on the work that determines whether a business can close its books with confidence, satisfy its auditors, raise its next round, and scale.
Our team has built and scaled finance functions at companies including Lyft, Ramp, and SoftBank. We remain closely involved throughout the relationship, from role alignment and interview preparation through onboarding, placement, and long-term career development.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to own accounting, financial control, and cash governance for a high-growth US company, working remotely from Brazil.
This role extends beyond the close. Alongside the integrity of the financial statements, you will own the controls over how money moves through the business: cash, treasury, spend approval, working capital, and the compliance obligations of each legal entity. Where the company has grown faster than its financial controls — payments approved informally, a cash view assembled by hand each week, entities whose statutory filings sit with whoever remembers them — you will put a proper control framework in place.
You will report to the CFO or CEO and work closely with FP&A, department heads, auditors, banks, and tax advisers. A significant part of the role is giving leadership an accurate, forward-looking view of the company's financial position, not only a record of what has already happened.
Because you will hold the financial control seat from outside the United States, the role calls for someone who operates with autonomy, communicates proactively, and is trusted to make the call on matters that affect cash and compliance.
What You'll Own
Financial Reporting and the Close
- The close and the financial statements. Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and the preparation of the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement under US GAAP.
- Consolidation. Own multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting, eliminations, and foreign currency translation across the group.
- Technical accounting. Conclude and document positions on revenue recognition, leases, equity, and other judgment-heavy areas.
- Management and board reporting. Deliver monthly management accounts and board-ready reporting packages with clear commentary on performance and risk.
Financial Control and Cash
- Control framework. Design and enforce the internal control framework, including delegation of authority, spend approval, segregation of duties, and payment controls.
- Cash and treasury. Own cash management, bank relationships, and the 13-week cash forecast, giving leadership a reliable view of liquidity and runway.
- Working capital. Oversee AP, AR, collections, and payment runs, holding each to defined standards and reducing cash leakage.
- Budget control. Partner with FP&A to track spend against budget and flag variances before they become overruns.
Tax, Compliance, and Audit
- Audit. Lead the annual audit or review end to end, including auditor management, PBC preparation, and resolution of findings.
- Tax. Coordinate US federal, state, and local tax compliance, sales tax, and 1099 reporting with external CPA firms; support transfer pricing across entities.
- Entity compliance. Maintain statutory and regulatory compliance for each legal entity, including international subsidiaries.
- Lender and investor requirements. Support debt covenant reporting, investor requests, and due diligence during fundraising.
Team and Systems
- The finance team. Lead and develop the accounting and finance operations team, and manage external accounting, payroll, and tax partners.
- Finance systems. Lead ERP, AP automation, spend management, and treasury tooling decisions and implementations.
- Policies and documentation. Build the policies, SOPs, and process documentation that allow the function to scale without depending on any single individual.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership of an accounting or finance team
- Demonstrated ownership of the close, the financial statements, and the control environment of a company or significant business unit
- Strong command of US GAAP, including ASC 606 and ASC 842; familiarity with ASC 718 is an advantage
- Direct experience with cash management, treasury, bank relationships, and cash forecasting
- Experience designing and enforcing internal controls, approval workflows, and delegation of authority
- Experience with multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting, and foreign currency
- Experience leading an audit and coordinating US tax compliance with external advisers
- Substantial ERP experience with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, or a comparable system, alongside tools such as Ramp, Brex, Bill.com, Rippling, or Gusto
- Advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets; Power BI or comparable reporting tools an advantage
- Experience presenting results and financial position to executives, boards, or lenders
- Experience working remotely with US-based leadership, auditors, and CPA firms
- Excellent written and verbal English, with the confidence to hold the room with executives, auditors, and banks
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Preferred
- CRC-registered Contador (Brazil), ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent strongly preferred
- Big 4 or comparable public accounting experience followed by industry experience
- Experience at a venture-backed or PE-backed US company, particularly Series A through growth stage
- Experience with debt facilities, covenant reporting, or fundraising due diligence
- International entity setup, statutory compliance, or transfer pricing experience
- SaaS, e-commerce, fintech, or professional services experience
Who This Role Is For
This role suits a finance leader who wants to own both the accuracy of the numbers and the controls around the money.
You are as comfortable challenging an unapproved payment as you are defending a technical position to an auditor. You look ahead at cash and risk, not only back at the close, and leadership trusts you to tell them early when something needs their attention.

- Receive MAVI's support throughout placement, onboarding, and the engagement that follows
Work Arrangement
This is a fully remote role. You will work directly with US-based leadership, auditors, banks, and external partners, and you will be placed with a single client company for the duration of the engagement rather than rotated across accounts.
