About MAVI

MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies.

We maintain a deliberately high bar on both sides of the placement. The companies we partner with are venture-backed and private equity-backed businesses building modern finance organizations, and the professionals we represent are operators with a track record of owning the numbers rather than supporting them from a distance.

The roles we place are embedded positions within the finance function itself. Our professionals work alongside founders, CEOs, and senior leadership on the work that determines whether a business can close its books with confidence, satisfy its auditors, raise its next round, and scale.

Our team has built and scaled finance functions at companies including Lyft, Ramp, and SoftBank. We remain closely involved throughout the relationship, from role alignment and interview preparation through onboarding, placement, and long-term career development.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to own the monthly close and core financial reporting of a high-growth US company, working remotely from Brazil.

This is not a task-execution role. You will own a complete accounting workstream from the first journal entry to the final reconciliation, and you will be accountable for the accuracy of what leaves your hands. Where the close relies on manual workarounds or undocumented steps, you will be expected to fix them rather than repeat them.

You will work directly with the Controller, finance leadership, and the US stakeholders who rely on your numbers. A meaningful part of the role is explaining material movements clearly and flagging risks before they become late adjustments.

Because you will be working remotely with a lean US finance team, the role calls for someone who manages their own calendar, communicates proactively, and resolves issues without waiting to be asked.

What You'll Own

The Close and Reporting

  • The close. Own the month-end and year-end close for one or more entities, including the checklist, deadlines, and quality of output.
  • Journal entries and schedules. Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaids, deferred revenue, and fixed asset schedules with clear supporting documentation.
  • Reconciliations. Own balance sheet reconciliations, resolving reconciling items rather than carrying them forward.
  • Financial statements. Prepare the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow support under US GAAP, and explain the movements behind them.
  • Flux analysis. Investigate unusual movements, identify root causes, and explain the financial statement impact to leadership.

Controls and Audit Readiness

  • Audit-ready support. Maintain schedules and documentation that an auditor or reviewer can follow without a walkthrough.
  • Process improvement. Improve close checklists, SOPs, and recurring workflows so each close runs faster and cleaner than the last.
  • Audit and tax support. Prepare PBC requests and the accounting inputs external CPA firms depend on.

Accounting Operations and Partnership

  • Transactional review. Review AP, AR, payroll, and expense activity for correct coding, cut-off, and accrual treatment.
  • Stakeholder communication. Communicate directly with US finance leaders, surfacing risks, dependencies, and open items early.
  • Systems. Work within the company's ERP and finance tools, and identify opportunities for automation.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with meaningful ownership of the month-end close
  • Hands-on experience with US GAAP, supporting US companies, US entities, or international businesses that report under US GAAP
  • Strong accrual accounting fundamentals; candidates with transferable CPC experience and practical US-client exposure will also be considered
  • Experience preparing the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow support
  • Working knowledge of revenue recognition (ASC 606) and leases (ASC 842)
  • ERP experience with QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Xero, or a comparable system; familiarity with tools such as Ramp, Brex, Bill.com, or Gusto is an advantage
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
  • The ability to own a workstream independently, investigate root causes, and resolve issues before they need senior escalation
  • Experience working remotely with US-based stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal English
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Preferred

  • CRC-registered Contador (Brazil), ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent (completed or in progress)
  • Big 4 or public accounting experience, or experience at a firm serving US clients
  • Experience at a venture-backed or PE-backed US company
  • Multi-entity or intercompany accounting exposure
  • SaaS, e-commerce, professional services, or recurring-revenue experience

Who This Role Is For

This role suits an accountant who is ready to own the close outright rather than contribute one piece of it.

You care about getting the number right and about why it moved. You fix a broken process instead of working around it, and you are comfortable raising an issue with a US finance leader before they find it themselves.

Why Join Through MAVI

  • Own a complete close for a high-growth US company, with direct exposure to US finance leadership
  • Work to US GAAP with US auditors and US systems, on the standard that opens international opportunities
  • Build a track record of independent ownership, not task execution
  • Progress toward Lead Accountant and Accounting Manager opportunities through MAVI
  • USD-denominated compensation aligned with experience and scope
  • Receive MAVI's support throughout placement, onboarding, and the engagement that follows

Work Arrangement

This is a fully remote role. You will work directly with US-based finance leadership, and you will be placed with a single client company for the duration of the engagement rather than rotated across accounts.

Full-time roles require a minimum of 4 hours of daily overlap with US Eastern Time (ET). Part-time roles require a minimum of 2 hours. The rest of your schedule is arranged around your local working day.
