Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and detail-oriented Tax Manager to lead our tax operations in Brazil. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and municipal tax regulations while driving tax optimization initiatives that support our automotive business expansion and profitability goals.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Brazilian tax legislation, hands-on experience within the automotive sector, and proven leadership capabilities to build a high-performing tax function.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Operations
- Develop and execute comprehensive tax compliance strategies covering ICMS, PIS / Cofins, IRPJ / CSLL, IPVA, ISS, and other sector-specific taxes, ensuring strict adherence to Receita Federal, SEFAZ, and municipal regulations.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and timely submission of all tax obligations, including NF-e, DANFE, SPED Fiscal / Contábil, DIRF, DCTF, EFD Contribuições, GIA, and related documentation.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of tax filings by reconciling tax records with accounting data, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining robust documentation for audit readiness.
Tax Planning & Optimization
Identify and implement tax planning opportunities, incentives, deductions, and credits applicable to automotive retail (e.g., new vehicle sales, used vehicles, fleet services, spare parts, regional tax incentives).Support senior management with tax-impact analyses for new business models, pricing strategies, dealership operations, and supply chain decisions.Risk Management & Governance
Monitor changes in tax legislation, regulatory updates, and judicial decisions impacting the automotive industry, updating internal procedures accordingly.Conduct tax risk assessments, develop mitigation plans, and ensure readiness for tax audits to minimize exposure to fines or penalties.Manage relationships with federal, state, and municipal tax authorities.Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with accounting, financial planning, sales, logistics, and inventory teams to ensure alignment of tax treatment across transactions, stock movements, sales incentives, and dealer activities.Review financial statements, general ledger entries, and inventory valuations to ensure compliance with BR GAAP and tax rules.Audit Management
Represent the company during tax audits and inspections, coordinating directly with auditors, external consultants, and legal counsel to prepare documentation, respond to inquiries, and defend tax positions.Lead efforts for audit remediation and internal control improvements following audit findings.Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals, establishing performance KPIs and fostering a culture of technical excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement.Provide internal tax training to cross-functional teams on relevant tax topics, process updates, and compliance requirements.Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax Law, or a related field.Minimum 7 years of progressive tax experience in the Brazilian automotive sector (dealerships, auto retail groups, distributors, or manufacturers).Alternatively, 5+ years of experience as a Tax Project Manager in a major accounting / tax advisory firm .Expert-level knowledge of Brazilian tax legislation, including ICMS, PIS / Cofins, IRPJ / CSLL, IPVA, ISS, tax substitution regimes (ST), automotive tax incentives, and SPED requirements.Proven track record in tax compliance, tax planning, audit defense, and tax optimization within the automotive industry.Advanced proficiency in SAP and strong command of tax automation systems and digital bookkeeping tools.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.Fluent in English .
